Glynda Brinson Gausnell was born in Blackshear and passed away peacefully Saturday, April 4, 2026, at the age of 84 in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.
Glynda was a talented and accomplished woman. Coming from a farming family and community, her brothers recognized that Glynda was very adept at stringing tobacco. She was an outstanding alto saxophone player for Blackshear High School and a state championship basketball finalist after lettering all four years and was voted most outstanding player her junior year, as her BHS team was regional champions in 1960. Glynda went on to play basketball for Tift College in Forsyth then moved to Jacksonville, Florida to attend Jones Business College.
While in Jacksonville, Glynda met her first husband, Vernon Brinson, and it is where they started their family. In 1964, soon after the arrival of their second son, Steve, they moved to New Orleans, LA where Vernon began his career as a successful automobile dealer with Key Royal Automotive. Glynda found her greatest sports passion on the tennis courts. Her love for tennis, enhanced her competitive spirit that helped her win many singles and doubles tournaments in New Orleans.
The family ultimately moved back to Ponte Vedra Beach, FL where she continued to advance her tennis game becoming team captain and winning multiple Ponte Vedra Club Championships. Vernon and Glynda built a lovely, ocean front house and she used her exceptional interior decorating talents to create a warm, inviting home. With her sons off at school Glynda channeled her creative energy into opening a small business and storefront on 3rd street in Jacksonville Beach she named Fiddlestix. This new venture took her and her associates to buyers markets both in the U.S. and in Mexico.
Vernon and Glynda amicably agreed to go in different directions and she took to the mountains of Colorado where her oldest son Mike and wife Monica were raising their two daughters. It was here she was to meet her new love Jack Gausnell that would lead to marriage and an adventurous life spent in Europe, Colorado and finally back to the beach at Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach. She loved her golf and yoga friends, especially their beloved instructor Andre. Her bright spirit, warmth, kindness, big smile and love touched everyone she knew.
