An inmate at Ware State Prison has been charged in connection to an April 2 bomb threat at Memorial Satilla Health, Waycross Police Department Major-Assistant Chief Danny Hampton said in a news release last week.
Damon Thomas Young, 44, was charged with Terroristic Threats and Acts, a felony. The warrant for Young’s arrest on the charges was served Thursday morning, April 9 at Ware State Prison.
Young was booked into the Ware County Jail at 10:26 a.m. April 9, according to jail records. Bond was denied in an appearance before a Ware County Magistrate and Young was returned to the custody of the Georgia Department of Corrections, records show.
Young has been serving a 20year sentence since 2010 for one count of aggravated assault of a peace officer, and two counts of bad checks, GDC records show.
WPD personnel responded to a report at about 5:30 p.m., April 2, for a bomb at the hospital. The facility was searched with the help of a K-9 unit and the area deemed safe later that evening when no explosive device was found, authorities said.
It was the second bomb threat received for MSH in the past three months. Authorities responded to a similar call of a bomb at the hospital January 25, but nothing was uncovered.
No injuries were reported in either of the incidents. No arrest has been made in the January 25 call, officials said.
Hampton said both incidents remain under investigation. Anyone with information about either one, is asked to contact WPD at (912) 287-2921 or the WPD tip line at (912) 287-2924.
