Residents urged to keep county clean by using convenience center

Residents urged to keep county clean by using convenience center
These mattresses were illegally dumped on Grady Street last week. Blackshear residents are reminded of the regular clean up days in the city and county residents are encouraged to use the convenience center at the Pierce County Landfill on New School Road.

Multiple mattresses were dumped illegally on the unincorporated portion of Grady Street last week.

No arrests have been made in the case, but local officials want to take the opportunity to remind residents to legally dispose of their trash and garbage.

Blackshear residents can take advantage of quarterly clean up days sponsored by the city and Ryland Environmental.

Blackshear clean up days are only available to city residents and proof of residency is required.

Proof will be recent utility bill from the City of Blackshear or a Georgia Power electric bill.

Material NOT acceptable for collection includes the following: batteries of any kind, tires of any kind, filled paint cans (only empty cans with lids removed will be accepted), automotive parts, tanks (gas, Freon, propane), oil drums (accepted only if empty and have holes in them) and NO hazardous waste of any kind (chemicals, pesticides, pool chemicals, etc).

Pierce County has a convenience center for local residents.
