Joseph ‘Joe’ Estus Crews

HORTENSE — Joseph “Joe” Estus Crews, 83 of Hortense, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2026, at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Crews was born April 11, 1942, in Jesup to Lacy Adolf Crews and Lettie Patricia Nichols Crews. He had lived in Hortense for the past 35 years and was a member of Little Memorial Baptist Church of Hortense.

Crews enjoyed hunting and freshwater fishing. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during Vietnam. Crews was called to duty during Desert Storm while serving with the United States Army Reserves.

He retired from Glynn County Public Works in 2005, and was a truck driver with H.S. Wilson Construction.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Lois ‘Prysie’ Crews of Hortense; a daughter, Kim Crews of Brunswick; sisters, Evelyn Rubenstein of Canton, Ga., Ethel Mc-Cready and Patricia Crews both of Fernandina Beach, Fla., Una Crews (Kurt) of Yulee, Fla., and Cheryl Smith (Bill) of Fredrick, Md.; his faithful chihuahua, JoJo; five grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews in Georgia and Texas; and numerous great grandchildren, great nieces and great nephews.

A funeral services was held Monday, April 13, 2026 at Chapman Funeral Chapel with Brother Keith Brown officiating.

Interment with Military Honors will follow at Palmetto Cemetery with Nathaniel Carswell, Austin Walker, Gage Browning, Alex Browning, Darwin LaGarce and Hunter Smith serving active pallbearers.

Chapman Funeral Chapel & Crematory of Brunwick was in charge of arrangements.
