Merrymakers celebrate group’s 52nd year at Waycross Central Baptist

A “great assemblage of Church family — older friends — applauded talented musician Wes Highsmith,” comments Phyllis Driver, who presided over the morning occasion celebrating the 52nd birthday of the Merrymakers organization at Central Baptist Church of Waycross. “We so appreciate Wes and really enjoyed his presentation by guitar of favorite Christian songs,” Mrs. Driver said. She presided in the absence of Merrymakers President Sherry Jernigan who is recovering from a knee health issue. The monthly luncheon is shared by many “just older youths” of the church and other friends. Talented church ladies decorated the church fellowship hall with outstanding Easter appointments. The highlight of the luncheon was the serving of a hamburger and hot dog feast. Mrs. Driver introduced Highsmith, lauding him as a “talented musician who plays onstage during church worship the bass or rhythm guitar.”

Highsmith is retired from Southeast Regional Development Center. His wife, Tami Highsmith, who is a retired teacher with the Ware County Board of Education, was seen in the audience applauding her husband.

The luncheon, held the fourth Monday of the month, was topped with iced birthday cupcakes and ice cream for dessert. Bill Blackrick, minister of music, asked the blessing prior to the delightful lunch and also discussed birthdays in his inspirational devotional. Among those sharing the memorable pre Easter festivitiy were church pastor the Rev. Ben Smith and former pastor, the Rev. Dr. Bill Young.
