Exchange Club of Waycross
The Exchange Club of Waycross will lead the community in a historic and patriotic celebration this Fourth of July as it presents the “America 250: Field of Honor”, a sweeping display of U.S. flags honoring service, sacrifice, and the nation’s 250th birthday.
Set at the Okefenokee Fairgrounds, the “Field of Honor” will feature hundreds of American flags arranged in precise, inspiring rows. Each flag may be dedicated in honor of a veteran, activeduty service member, first responder, or community hero.
The event is free and open to the public, inviting families, visitors and residents to walk among the flags, read the dedications, and reflect on the meaning of service.
This year’s celebration will include two dramatic tributes from the United States Air Force (if the war permits): an A-10 Warthog flyover during the opening ceremony and a Sikorsky HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopter on static display for several days leading up to July 4.
Together, these elements form what organizers describe as “a salute in the sky and on the ground,” honoring those who answer the call to serve.
The Opening Ceremony will begin at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 4, featuring patriotic music, guest speakers, and recognition of local heroes. Organizers emphasize the “Field of Honor” is a celebration of service, not a memorial service — an uplifting tribute aligned with the national America 250 observance.
“The ‘Field of Honor’ reflects the values of service, duty and community,” the Exchange Club noted in its event materials. “As the nation marks this historic milestone, Waycross joins communities across the country in honoring the past and inspiring future generations.”
Proceeds from flag dedications and sponsorships will support the Exchange Club’s local programs, including child abuse prevention, youth development, and community service initiatives.
The club, founded on principles of Americanism and civic engagement, meets weekly and has long been a leader in patriotic programming in Ware County.
The Field of Honor will be located at the Okefenokee Fairgrounds 2401 Knight Ave., Waycross, GA 31503 For more information or to dedicate a flag in honor of a hero, visit waycrossfair. com or contact event coordinators Kirby McSwain (678-878-0340) or Mary Louise Snyder (912-614-5844).
As Waycross prepares to celebrate America’s 250th birthday, the Exchange Club invites the community to stand together in gratitude — celebrating freedom, remembering sacrifice, and honoring those who serve.
