WAYNESVILLE — Timmy Junior Griffin, 68 of Waynesville, passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at his residence after an extended illness.
Griffin was born in Waycross to the late Noah Dillard Griffin and Inez Driggers Griffin. He is also preceded in death by a brother, Edger Griffin; a grandson, Michael Byrd, Jr.; two aunts, Clara Jean Dickerson and Lorine Driggers; and a cousin, Buddy Dixon.
Griffin was a loving husband, father and papa and proudly served his country for 12 years in the Army as a medic. He loved hunting, fishing, playing the guitar and singing Alabama songs with the kids and grandkids. His favorite song was “Close Enough to Perfect”, which he would play and sing to his beloved wife.
Griffin taught his grandchildren to hunt and fish, ride horses, and was a confidant and best friend to them. He would call his girls and grands every day. Griffin was known for his quick-witted sense of humor and lit up the room with his personality.
He played in the band while in the military. Griffin played at many events, including the Daytona 500. Griffin loved to travel to the mountains, Disney and the Strawberry Festival, and cherished any time he could spend with his family and always put them first.
He will be deeply missed and loved by all those who knew him.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 44 years, Wendy Griffin; a son, Timothy Stephen “Bubba” Griffin (Rebecca) of Waycross; five daughters, Leslie Taylor of Waycross, Amanda Byrd (Danny) of Waycross, Pamella Griffin of Brunswick, Rhonda Griffin of Virginia and Julia Popp (Douglas) of Folkston; 17 grandchildren, Emily, Allen, Cassidy, Junior, Austin, Harrison, Tanner, Chloe Anna, Ellajay, Natalie, Danielle, Robbie, Andrew, Carson, Maybree, Annah and Ellie; six great-grandchildren, Cash, Addler, Hartley, Colton, Bentley and Wrenley; a brother, Steve Griffin of Jacksonville; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at the funeral home officiated by Bishop Raymond Willis.
Burial followed at Greenlawn Cemetery with military honors immediately following the service.
Pallbearers were Andrew Goreham, Robbie Goreham, Carson Buchanan, Connor Barker, Aaron Dixon, Austin Griffin, Junior Griffin and Allen Taylor.
