Ware Gators 10th at Blue Devil

TIFTON — Pierce County’s Bears and Ware County’s Gators tied for eighth and 10th respectively here Monday at Spring Hill Country Club in the ‘C.D. Moore’ Blue Devil Invitational, hosted by Tift County.

The Class 2A Bears tied Class 5A Houston County for eighth in the March 23, 17team field with a score of 322. The Class 4A Gators were two shots back tied with Class A Jeff Davis for 10th with a team score of 324.

Class 6A Lowndes scorched the course, posting a six-under-par team score of 282 to win by 17 shots over Class 6A tournament host Tift County “A”, who shot 299. Finishing between the Blue Devils and the two sets of Bears were Class 5A Coffee (300), Class 6A Colquitt County (302), Class 5A Thomas County Central (308), Class 1A Worth County (315) and Class 5A Lee County (315).

Trailing the Gators and Yellow Jackets were Class 3A Bainbridge (327), Tift County “B” (333), Class 1A Berrien (345), Class 2A Crisp County (365), Class 6A Valdosta (381) and Class 1A Bacon County (383).

Seven players in the field of 88 players carded red figures, led by the four-underpar round of 68 by Lowndes’ Camden Yager. Five players were tied at two shots back with scores of 70. One player shot 71 and four finished at even-par 72.

Of the 11 players at even par or better, four teed up the ball for Lowndes. The Vikings had scores of 68, 70 and two 72s in their sixunder- par day.

PCHS was led by the 77s of Bennett Puryear and Griffin Hull, who tied with Ware County’s Brody Martin for 27th place. Beau Strickland was next with a round of 83 finishing in a three-way for 50th.

Barrett Moore followed an 85 tying two others for 55th. Hardt Strickland posted an 88 to finish in a five-way tie for 60th, which included Ware County’s Lucas Tuten.

The Gators were led by the one-over-par round of 73 by Asher Dean tying for 12th with four others. Martin followed with a 77.

Jackson Ray posted an 86 tying for 58th with Rylan Bloodworth of Jeff Davis. Lucas Tuten’s round of 88 rounded out the team score. Will Peters shot 96 to finish in a fourway tie for 79th.

Camden beats Gators in dual match by one KINGSLAND — Camden County clipped the Gators by one stroke in a nine-hole match Tuesday here at Osprey Cove Golf Club.

The Wildcats posted a team score of 152 with the Gators finishing with a 153 in the March 24 match.

Asher Dean carded a two-under-par score of 34 for Ware County. Lucas Tuten was next with a 39. Brody Martin and Jackson Ray followed with rounds of 40 and 41 respectively for the team score.

Will Peters posted a 44, Kolby King notched a 48, Jackson Dubberly fired a 51, Carter Hancher and Rhett Taylor shot rounds of 52 and 53 respectively, and Brandon Holley fired a 55.

Gators third in four-team match

BLACKSHEAR — PCHS posted a five-over-par nine-hole score of 149 to beat Camden County, Ware County and McIntosh County Academy here at the Okefenokee Country Club Thursday afternoon.

The Wildcats were eight shots back with a 157. The Gators posted a 168 score with the Bucs shooting 194 in the March 26 match.

The Bears were led by the one-under-par score of Justin Smith (two birdies) and the even-par round of Hardt Strickland (two birdies). Bennett Puryear (two birdies) and Beau Strickland carded ninehole scores of 39 for the team score.

Griffin Hull and Barrett Moore rounded out the six-man squad with scores of 43. Also participating were C.J. Weathersby (birdie) and Conner Dowling, who each shot 42, and Will Higginson (birdie) added a 43.

Ware County had a pair of sub-40 scores with Asher Dean (two birdies) carding a one-over-par score of 37 and Brody Martin (birdie) following with a 39. Kolby King (two birdies) and Will Peters rounded out the team score with a 46 apiece.

Lucas Tuten and Jackson Dubberly finished out the six-man squad with scores of 51 and 52 respectively. Also playing were Rhett Taylor (48), Brandon Holley (53) and Carter Hanchey (58).
