WAYCROSS — Lt. Jesse A. “Jay” Lee, 43 of Waycross died Sunday morning, March 22, 2026 in Macon after a sudden illness.

Lee was born in Waycross to Kyle Lee and the late Kimberly Bailey Lee and made Waycross his home for most of his life.

H e served in law enforcement faithfully, starting with the Ware County Sheriff’s Department as a transport driver for the jail, Nahunta Police Department, 12 years with the Blackshear Police Department, and has been with the Waycross Police Department since 2014. His passion was law enforcement training, where he dedicated many hours to the training facilities in Forsyth, Georgia.

Lt. Lee was a talented man who served in many capacities throughout the years with law enforcement agencies, but could also be found spreading his talents in other areas of life.

He played bass when making music, and also worked as a sound engineer for Huckleberry Studios. He wrote and designed opening music and credits for wellrenowned podcasts that are still playing today. He enjoyed a good game of Dungeons and Dragons, doing 3-D printing, and making wood burnt etching items for people.

Lt. Lee is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Mary Lee of Waycross; four children, Sean Lee (Stacie), Holly Lee, Coleman Lee, Hannah Lee; two special nieces, Mary Katherine Stalvey (husband Andrew), Emily Moore; his father Kyle Lee of Waycross; two siblings, Cory Hiers (Emily) of Blackshear and Brianna Hiers of Valdosta; his mother-in-law, Mary Lee Hickox of Waycross; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A celebration of life was held Monday, March 30, 2026 at C.C. McCray Waycross City Auditorium.
