DIXIE UNION — Mr. Larry Dwight Player, 70, passed away Sunday afternoon, March 22, 2026, at his residence in Dixie Union.
Player was born November 28, 1955, in Lafayette, Ga., to the late Thomas Player and Sybil Brown Whitley. He was raised in Folkston where he attended Charlton County High School.
Player retired from Scapa Dyers and was also formerly employed by Flash Foods. A resident of Dixie Union, he was a longtime member of Hephzibah Baptist Church.
Player found joy in the simple blessings of life. He loved nature and the outdoors, especially watching his hummingbirds and spending time with his cats. Known for his kind and generous spirit, he never met a stranger and would “give you the shirt off his back.”
Above all, Player was a Godly man who deeply loved his family and cherished every moment with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandmother who raised him, Martha Brown; and his siblings, Kim Morgan, Tammy Whitley, Layton Player, Johnny Player, Larry Joe Brown and Liz Brown.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 51 years, Gloria Jean Lee Player of Waycross; his children, Lisa Nelson (Mark) of Lake Butler, Fla., Tasha Davis of Waycross and Jeremy Player (Beth) of Waycross; his grandchildren, Austin Strickland (Helen), Amber Nelson, Brian Nelson and Cierra Crawford; his beloved granddog, Lexi; his greatgrandchildren, Amiyah, Henley, Blair and Charlie Strickland; his siblings, Tommy Player (Geri) of Jacksonville, Ala., Lois Adams (Larry) of Folkston, Barbara Sue Brown of Folkston, Ricky Player (Kelly) of Alabama, Ginger Mendow of Alabama, Paul Clift (Sharon) of Alabama, and Robin Harwood (Donnie) of Tennessee; his in-laws, Jackie Westbrook, Gwen Jones, Glenda Eaton (Paul), and Ronnie King (Lawanna), all of Waycross, Bonnie Lee (Terry) of Hoboken, Susan Conner (Alex) of Moore Haven, Fla., and Danny Lee (Deb) of Jesup; special friends, Elmond King of Dixie Union, and Janice and Rudy Norwood of Waycross; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Hephzibah Baptist Church with Rev. Eric Buchanan officiating.
Player will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
