Emma Alligood with the Georgia Water Coalition was the guest speaker for the SatillaRiverKeeper event that was held at the Blueberry Hill Restaurant on Saturday evening.
After she spoke, Shannon Gregory (the SatillaRiver-Keeper) talked about the 2025 accomp lishments that were made this past year and the first part of this year.
2025
• There were 48 Pollution investigations
• 208 Water Quality tests were performed
• 7, 365 pounds of trash were removed from the banks of the Satilla River
• 2 Summer College internships were provided positions
• Launched Trash the Trash - a watershed study examining trash at boat landings.
• Launched Coffee and Community - a monthly nature hike at Laura Walker State Park
• Participated in a statewide microplastics study
• Gave away over 300 trees to restore tree canopy lost during Hurricane Helene
• Led a successful grassroots effort that halted the construction of 60 commercial chicken houses from being built on the banks of the Satilla River
2026
• Conducted 12 pollution investigations
• Performed 72 Water Quality tests
• Collected 2,415 pounds of trash from the banks of the Satilla River
