NAHUNTA — The Brantley County Retired Educators Association (BCREA) was thrilled to present a scholarship check for $500 to Brantley County Schools employee Traci Spell during its March meeting.
Ms. Spell is currently a 6th grade paraprofessional at Hoboken Elementary School, and is pursuing an education degree to become a teacher.
BCREA created this scholarship in 2023 to support Brantley County school employees who are furthering their education by seeking a higher degree, adding on additional certifications, or pursuing initial teaching credentials. By focusing the scholarship in this way, the organization hopes to maximize the positive impact this scholarship will have on many Brantley County students for the foreseeable future.
So far, the award has gone to one teacher who was enrolled in a Masters Degree program, another teacher who was teaching out of field while taking classes to obtain in-field certification, and now two paraprofessionals who were pursuing their dreams of becoming certificated Brantley County teachers.
The BCREA would like to publicly congratulate our latest very deserving scholarship recipient.
In addition to awarding this scholarship, the BCREA received its final set of donations for the Georgia Retired Educators Association (GREA) President’s Humanitarian Project - the Wellstar Children’s Hospital of Georgia. They also heard a fascinating and engaging history of Brantley County by BCHS teacher Dillan Lee.
The organization has only two more meetings this year - April 17 and May 15 - both at 10:30 a.m., in the Brantley County Transportation Professional Learning Room. All Brantley County retired educators (that’s ALL school employees - teachers, paras, school secretaries, custodians, etc.) and other interested parties are invited to attend.
