The Waycross-Ware County law enforcement community is mourning the deaths of two of its members Saturday.
Sgt. George Grant of the Ware County Sheriff’s Office and Lt. Jesse Lee of the Waycross Police Department each died March 21. Grant was a member of the Ware County Jail detention team, while Lee was Commander of WPD’s Training and Personnel Unit.
Grant had been a member of the Sheriff’s Office for more than 21 years. Lee had been with WPD for nearly a dozen years.
Both deaths were announced March 22 by their agencies in Facebook posts. No cause of the deaths or respective funeral arrangements were included in the posts.
“Sgt. George Grant’s passing was a huge blow to the Sheriff’s Office as a whole and to me personally,” Ware County Sheriff Carl James told The Journal-Herald.
