Unidentified man riding Virginia-bound Amtrak charged with Disorderly Conduct
NAHUNTA — An Amtrak passenger was taken into custody Thursday after becoming belligerent on the northbound train.
The incident ocurred March 19 with the train, headed to Virginia from Florida, stopping in Nahunta after phoning Brantley County 911.
Nahunta Police Department Officer Travis Smith responded to the call of the “disorderly passenger” on the train after “a conductor reported the unruly” passenger.
According to a video posted to Facebook, the unidentified passenger, a male, was not happy with orders to exit the train and being handed over to Officer Smith.
The passenger could be heard asking Amtrak personnel why he was being escorted off the train and why Officer Smith was putting him in handcuffs.
The passenger tried to rebuff his placement into the backseat of police truck.
Officer Smith can be heard demanding the man to stop resisting while the video appears to show a struggle to handcuff him.
Once the door was shut, the man started kicking at the window.
Officer Smith can be heard telling the man, after he opened the door, “he better not break the window” and then shutting the door a second time.
The passenger was charged with Disorderly Conduct on the train, which according to Nahunta Police Chief Brad Todd, was fueled by alcohol consumption.
