Lady Heron netters head into region tourney as No. 2 seed

Brantley County’s Lady Herons closed out their Region 1-A schedule with two wins to earn the No. 2 seed in the upcoming tournament.

BCHS slipped past region foe Bacon County 3-2 in Alma Tuesday, March 17. The Lady Herons overpowered Fitzgerald 5-0 at home Wednesday, March 18 in a match originally scheduled for Thursday, March 12. They wrapped the busy week escaping with a 3-2 victory in Jesup over Wayne County.

ALMA — Brantley County survived, winning two of the three singles matches in straight sets and splitting in doubles actions with a straight set victory.

Both of Bacon County’s victories in third set, 10-point tie-breakers.

The Lady Herons’ Haley Smith turned back Bailey Palmer 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 singles with Mary Drury posting a 7-5, 6-1 decision at No. 3 over Morgan Lee. Adalyn Lattanzie fell 6-0, 6-7 (2-7) 10-4 to Annalynne Sears at No. 2.

BCHS’s No. 2 doubles team of Bri Crews and Brenna Gilder held off Ally Grace Dyal and Zoe Metts 7-5, 6-4. The No. 1 doubles tandem of Emersyn Payne and Kynli Flowers fell 7-6 (7-3), 1-6, 106 to Braelynn King and Johnni Lyn Tyre.

CANEY BAY — The Lady Herons had no trouble with region mate Fitzgerald dropping nine games — all in doubles action.

All three singles matches ended 6-0, 60. Smith beat Bella Bryant, Lattanzie rolled past Miley Grace Yang and Drury knocked off Mollie Clegham.

Flowers and Payne teamed up at No. 1 to beat Lily Stubbs and Madison Carroll 6-3, 6-2. The No. 2 duo of Crews and S.K. Rentz eased past Lilly Renfroe and Laura Lee Calhoun 6-4, 6-0.

JESUP — Brantley County posted easy victories at No. 3 singles and in both doubles matches to slip past the Lady Yellow Jackets.

Crews blanked Avarie McBee 6-0, 6-0 for the Lady Herons’ lone victory in singles action. Lattanzie dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 1 to Addy Turner. Drury suffered a 1-6, 6-2, 10-4 loss at No. 2 to Jada Campbell.

The No. 1 doubles team of Smith and Gilder rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Emma Murphy and Lillie Stone. Payne and Flowers teamed up at No. 2 blanking Sierra Braga and Jayde Wade 6-0, 6-0.
