A Waycross man was arrested and charged with the murder of another city man following a shooting last week, Waycross Police said.
Brandon Dale Frick, 29, was arrested Friday, March 13 near the scene of the evening incident in a parking lot off the intersection of Snelson Street and Haines Avenue, said Major-Assistant Chief of Police Danny Hampton.
Frick has been charged in the death of Jacob Cothern, 35.
Frick currently is in the Ware County Jail where he was denied bail during an appearance Monday, March 15, before a magistrate, said Ware County Sheriff’s Office Major Neil Skerratt.
It was the first murder reported in Waycross this year. There were two in 2025.
WPD officers were dispatched to the Snelson-Brunel area at 8:22 p.m. following a 911 call for a person being shot.
Responding officers were given a description of a possible suspect and were able to take him into custody near the scene.
Other officers located the victim, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, authorities said.
Those officers performed CPR until Ware County EMS arrived and took over lifesaving efforts that failed to revive the man.
Ware County Chief Deputy Coroner Jonathan Abbott pronounced Cothern dead at the scene, officials said.
Hampton said the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
If anyone has any information, he asked them to call WPD investigators at (912) 287-2929, the WPD Main Office at (912) 287- 2921, or the WPD Tip Line at (912) 287-2924.
