Two staff members at Memorial Satilla Health were recently recognized with awards for extraordinary compassion and dedication to patients and families, the hospital announced.
Registered Nurse Zoie Johnson has been named the latest DAISY Award recipient at MSH while Kaylen Taylor has been honored with the Sunflower Award.
The DAISY Award is an international recognition program that honors nurses who demonstrate clinical excellence and extraordinary compassionate care. The Sunflower Award non-nursing staffers who go above and beyond in providing exceptional support and compassion.
“Zoie and Kaylen exemplify the heart of Memorial Satilla Health,” said Jen Weaver, Chief Nursing Officer. “Their compassion, empathy, and unwavering commitment to our patients and families reflect the highest standards of care.
“We’re incredibly proud to have team members who not only provide excellent clinical and support services, but who also bring comfort, reassurance, and light during life’s most challenging moments.”
Johnson, a post-partum nurse, was nominated by multiple patients for her exceptional hands-on care and heartfelt compassion.
One new mother shared, “Zoie is now a part of my family! She was the best a mother could ask for.”
From the moment of delivery, she ensured the mother, her newborn, and her two other children received attentive, personalized care, her nomination letter added. She made certain her patient was able to rest, remained reassured throughout her stay, and felt completely supported.
In a second nomination, a patient recovering from a partial hysterectomy described Johnson as “the absolute best,” praising her for being sweet, attentive, and consistently warm and inviting.
Both families emphasized the nurse went above and beyond, making the hospital feel more like home. Johnson’s commitment to treating esch patient like family embodies the award’s true spirit.
Taylor was recognized for her compassionate presence during an especially difficult time for one patient’s family. While grieving the tragic loss of a loved one and supporting a mother readmitted to the hospital, a family member found comfort in Taylor’s warm smile and soothing voice.
According to the nomination, Taylor’s “empathetic tone lifted my load,” and her kind words “healed and comforted my broken heart,” bringing light into a very dark day.
