The Okefenokee Heritage Center, 1460 N. Augusta Avenue, is hosting the Steve Bean Youth Art Exhibit throughout the month of April.
The annual exhibit features art work by students from elementary through high school and is held in honor of the late OHC Arts Coordinator. A reception to honor the artists will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 26, Middle and high school entries will be adjudicated for first, second, and third prizes. Winners will be announced at the reception.
Bean was OHC Arts Coordinator for more than a decade. He attended Appalachian State University, where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Art Marketing.
Bean worked in a number of mediums, including painting, sculpture, and graphic design. He believed in the power of art to increase student matriculation into higher education, higher test scores, and more prestigious career development.
