Pierce County’s Lady Bears captured the Granger Invitational Saturday in LaGrange, beating Class 6A Etowah for the Division 2 title.

The Lady Bears rolled to a 5-0 victory Tuesday, March 10 in Savannah over region foe Savannah Arts Academy before the two-day LaGrange tournament.

PCHS slipped past Class 6A Buford 3-2 Friday, March 13. The Lady Bears followed with a 5-0 win over Class A DI Screven County on Day 1. The Lady Bears beat Etowah 4-1.

Pierce County were scheduled to travel Tuesday, March 17 to face Appling County. The Lady Bears will participate in the two-day Wildcat Invitational at Camden County High School Friday, March 20 and Saturday, March 21.

SAVANNAH — PCHS clinched the match with three easy victories in the singles competition losing just four games.

Jasmine Sergent topped Georgia Liljenquist 6-2, 6-1 in the closest singles match at No. 1. Mattie Lee beat Piper Mott 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2. Marlee Kate Wetherington blanked Zoe Wagner 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3.

The No. 1 doubles team of Brooklyn Thomas and Abby Higginson notched a 6-4, 7-5 win over Eden Sinoff and Caroline Hux. The No. 2 team of Eva Horne and Mary Mac Cochran needed three sets to turn back Millie Liljenquist and Lena Anne Smith 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.

LAGRANGE — Pierce County captured two of the three singles winning third-set tie-breakers and split the doubles action to beat the Lady Wolves.

Weatherington rallied from a set down to beat Ava Wittry 3-6, 6-2, 11-9 at No. 1. Lee held off Suhani Patel at No. 2, winning 6-2, 4-6, 10-4. Sergent fell at No. 3 to Hannah Hennen 3-6, 6-3, 10-5.

The No. 1 doubles team of Thomas and Higginson dropped a heartbreaking 7-6, 7-5 decision to Caitlyn Palm and Taylor Baucum. Riley Chambliss and Horne notched a 6-2, 6-3 decision at No. 2 over Natalie Hall and Mary Austin Sapp.

LAGRANGE — The Lady Bears rolled past Screven County taking all five matches in straight sets.

Weatherington posted a 6-3, 7-5 victory at No. 1 over Caroline Boswell. Lee knocked off Harper Sheppard winning 62, 6-1 at No. 2. Sergent notched an easy 6-0, 6-0 decision at No. 3 over Lilly McAfee.

Both doubles teams recorded 6-0, 6-1 decisions. Higginson and Thomas teamed up at No. 1 with Horne and Chambliss playing at No. 2.

LAGRANGE — PCHS won three of four contested matches and another by disqualification, beating the Lady Eagles.

Weatherington outlasted Sarah Robles at No. 1 7-5, 6-4. Lee lost a third-set, 10point tie-breaker at No. 2 falling 7-6, 1-6, 10-5 over Eliza Porter. Sergent won by DQ.

Thomas and Higginson downed Era Lussier and Lila Hedluned 7-6, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. The No. 2 duo of Horne and Chambliss survived winning a third-set, 10-point tie-breaker over Dree Kelnva and Kara DeWett 7-5, 6-7, 10-3.
