(The Patterson City Council discussed and/or voted on the following items during their monthly meeting Thursday, March 12. ) Speed bumps: Speed bumps will be installed on Thomas Street near the Red Pepper Grill and on Peach Avenue. Public Works Superintendent Tyler Stokes said the speed bumps have been ordered but have not been delivered. The speed bumps on Thomas Street were removed when the street was resurfaced and have not been replaced. A resident asked for new speed bumps to be installed on Peach Avenue to help slow traffic there. Speed bumps have been a regular request to help alleviate speeding in Patterson in recent months. Speed bumps have already been placed on Tyre Bridge Road.
City bank account change: The council approved adding Emily Hadaway as a signer to the city’s bank accounts. Hadaway is accounts payable and public relations clerk for the city.
Department reports: Police Chief Nick Strickland said his department responded to 12 calls in February including six calls for service, three fire calls and made three traffic stops. Chief Strickland said Patterson is currently waiting approval from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to run radar detection equipment. He said the city would step up traffic enforcement once the approval is given. Public Works superintendent Stokes reported the new Industrial Boulevard lift station is in, but the one for Hyers Street has not been delivered. He reported the fire department answered six fire calls and two medical assist calls in February. Firefighters also participated in four training events for a total of 10 hours accredited training. Both Strickland and Stokes reported remodeling of the Georgia Forestry Commission for the city fire department and public works headquarters is nearing completion. Councilman David Smith said he wanted old tires and furniture that has been piled up by the city’s roadways to be cleaned up. He specifically noted one across the street from Patterson Baptist Church and one near the post office. Councilman Chris Mock thanked Stokes for his efforts to remove beaver dams on Echols Street, though he noted the critters have already rebuild the dam. Stokes said he would be removing it again.
City Clerk Laura Kate Dixon had nothing to report.
Mayor Dedi Thomas reported the city will soon begin renovations on the brick room at Eagle Station to include insulation and window tinting. He also commended The Barnard Company of Patterson for always giving the city a low price on materials.
