Robert Westberry celebrated his 104 birthday March 8.
A party in his honor was held Friday, March 6, at Harborview-Pierce, where he is a resident. A private family fish fry was also held over the weekend as part of the festivities.
Westberry is the last living charter member of Blackshear’s Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Westberry was born in Blackshear in 1922 in a house on Strickland Ave. described by Westberry as the last house just inside the city limits. He was one of five siblings of which he is the last survivor.
Westberry has faithfully served the Lord at Emmanuel Baptist Church for more than 70 years. As the last remaining charter member, he has been part of the church congregation since its inception in 1953.
Westberry is the widower of the late Agnes Walker Westberry and they were the parents of the late Linda Gail (Jim) Dennison.
Westberry has two grandchildren, Ian (Marie) Dennison and Karla (Richard) Harris and three greatgrandchildren, Cade Dennison, Chloe Dennison and Jarrett Harris.
