Lady Herons bounce back with two region wins
Brantley County’s Lady Herons tennis team followed up a fourth-place finish at the annual Jekyll Jam returning to its winning ways with an easy Region l-A victory over Worth County.
BCHS was blanked 5-0 by LaGrange in the semifinals of the Jekyll Jam, and fell 4-1 to Savannah Country Day in the consolation match Saturday, February 28.
The Lady Herons returned to region play Tuesday, March 3 in Sylvester, sweeping the Lady Rams 5-0. They clipped Berrien 3-2 in Nashville Thursday, March 5.
BCHS traveled Tuesday, March 10 for a non-region matchup in Baxley with Appling County. The Lady Herons host region foe Fitzgerald Thursday, March 12.

BRUNSWICK - The Lady Grangers posted five straight-set victories over BCHS in matches to four to advance to the finals.
Haley Jane Smith dropped a 4-1, 4-0 decision at No. 1 singles to Molly Edelson. Adalyn Lattanzie fell 4-1, 4-2 at No. 2 to Ava Edelson. Mary Drury suffered a 5-3, 4-1 loss at No. 3 to Yerim Kim.
The No. 1 doubles team of Kynli Flowers and Emersyn Payne were beaten 4-2, 4-2 by Anna Claire and Ava Wallace. The No. 2 duo of Bri Crews and Sara Kate Rentz lost 4-0, 4-1 to Madi Del Angel and Elly Sanchez.

BRUNSWICK - BCHS’s lone victory against the Lady Hornets came at No. 1 singles.
Smith needed a third-set, seven-point tie-breaker to beat Helen Culver 4-1, 0-4, 7-4. Lattanzie fell a third-set, seven-point tie-breaker at No. 2 to Virginia Glover 42, 2-4, 7-3. Drury was blanked 4-0, 4-0 by Katherin Berry at No. 3.
Flowers and Payne lost in straight sets at No. 1 doubles to Margaret Brennanu and Couper Howard 5-3, 4-1. Breanna Gilder and Crews fell 4-0, 5-3 to Juliette Joufrault and Reeves Romano.

SYLVESTER - The Lady Herons lost just six games in overpowering Worth County.
Smith rolled past Lilly Reynolds at No. 1, winning 6-0, 6-1. Lattanzie posted a 6O, 6-1 decision at No. 2 over Anna Huynh. Drury blanked Jaherira Morse at No. 3, recording a 6-0, 6-0 decision.
Payne and Flowers played the closest match at No. 1 doubles, beating Brooklyn Crenshaw and Lauren Griffin 6-1, 6-2. Gilder and Crews had an easy time at No. 2, downing Alexis Watson and Ava Scoggins 6-0, 6-1.

NASHVILLE — BCHS was pushed in the matchup with the Lady Rebels, winning two of three singles matchups and splitting the doubles matches.
Smith overcame a oneset deficit at No. 1 singles, winning the third-set, 10point tie-breaker to beat Joci Holbrook 5-7, 7-5, 106. Lattanzie held off Emmi Warren 6-1, 7-5 at No. 2. Drury fell 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 to Sarah Nugent.
Flowers and Payne let a one-set advantage slip away at No. 1 doubles, falling 3-6, 7-5, 10-8 to Emery Lane and Calli Nix. The No. 2 tandem of Crews and Gilder prevailed 6-1, 6-2 over Sadie Webber and Braelyn Cersey.
