Herons blank region foes Worth Co., Berrien

The Brantley County Herons came up one victory short of repeating as champions at the annual Jekyll Jam falling 4-1 to LaGrange in the championship match.

BCHS blanked Oconee County 5-0 in the semifinals before losing to Grangers Saturday, February 28. The Herons followed with a pair of 5-0 Region lA road wins Tuesday, March 3 at Worth County and Thursday, March 5 at Berrien.

BCHS traveled Tuesday, March 10 for a non-region matchup in Baxley with Appling County. The Lady Herons host region foe Fitzgerald Thursday, March 12.

BRUNSWICK - The Herons were pushed to the limit despite winning all five matches, with two decided in second set tie-breakers and both doubles matches going to a third-set, seven-point tie-breaker.

Ashton Tyler played the only match not involving a tie-breaker at No. 1 singles, beating Vance Patterson 4-0, 4-2. Owen Spradley bested Elijah Small 4-1,

5-4 (7-3) at No. 2. Jayce Chapman posted a 4-0, 5-4 (7-3) win at No. 3 over Saahil Doshi.

The No. 1 doubles team of Miles and Jett Florey rallied to beat Rohan Patel and Levi Patch 1-4, 4-0, 7-4. The No. 2 tandem of Evan Payne and Yog Patel outlasted Parker Antwine and Carter Ellspoermann 4-2, 4-5 (5-7), 7-4.

BRUNSWICK — The Floreys captured Brantley County’s lone victory against LaGrange in the championship match.

They rallied from a set down, winning the third-set, 10-point tie-breaker to beat Brayden Lamb and Charlie Battle 5-7, 60,10-6. Owen Wildes and Payne fell at No. 2 to Sehun and Towns Weldon 6-2, 6-3.

In the singles matchups, Tyler lost 6O, 6-1 to Ethan Black at No. 1, with Spradley and Chapman dropping 6-4, 64 decisions to Brody Douhne and Alex Lee at No. 2 and No. 3 respectively.

SYLVESTER — Brantley County demolished the Rams, losing just two games with four matches finishing 6-0, 6-0.

Tyler’s 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 1 over Jay Patel was the closest match between the two programs. Spradley and Chapman notched 6-0, 6-0 wins over Aiden Souter and Kishan Patel at No. 2 and No. 3 respectively.

The Floreys bested Camden Stalvey and Keason Mc-Donald 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles, with Alex Keen and Payne rolling 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 over Joey Bennett and Christian Dunn.

NASHVILLE — The Herons had little trouble with Berrien, winning each match in straight sets.

Tyler dropped Brody Soeffner 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1. Spradley recorded a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 2 over Eli Soeffner. Chapman posted a 6-2, 6-3 decision at No. 3 over Kaleb Farris.

The No. 1 doubles team of Miles Florey and Payne recorded a 6-1, 6-1 win over Cayden Echols and Levi Watson. Patel and Keen teamed up at No. 2, rolling to a 6-2, 6-1 decision.
