WAYCROSS — Mr. Louis Fredrick “Louie” Lucas, 71, of Waycross, died Wednesday morning, March 4, 2026, at Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla. after an extended illness.

He was born in Ware County to the late Robert David Lucas and Sadie Rowell Lucas. Lucas made Waycross his home for his entire life. A master mechanic, he owned and operated Lucas Amoco for many years before retiring. His love for mechanic work followed him into retirement, as he continued doing jobs any time he had the opportunity. He loved the outdoors and fishing, and most times you could find him working in his yard. Lucas and his wife, Grace, attended Christ Church.

Along with his parents, he also was preceded in death by his daughter, Lynn Snyder; three sisters, Atha Lucas, Mamie Lucas, and Wanda Aspinwall; and two brothers, Sidney Lucas and Robert Lucas.

He is survived by his wife, Grace Lucas of Waycross; two daughters, Christina McLoud (Ricky) of Loganville, Ga., and Kathy Callaghan (Josh) of Nashville, Ga.; five grandchildren, Matthew Holmes, Hannah Holmes, Nathan Holmes, Logan Callaghan, and Adyn Callaghan; four great grandchildren, Amber Holmes, Jaxon Morgan, Ryder Holmes, and Rowan Holmes; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A funeral service was held March 7 in the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Greenlawn Cemetery.
