WAYCROSS — Ada Eaton Douglas, 91, of Waycross, died Thursday afternoon, March 5, 2026, at Memorial Satilla Health after a brief illness.
She attributed her 91 years to “staying active, worshiping her God and being with her family and friends.’’
Ms. Douglas was born the third child of Carlton and Sara Youmans Eaton of the Youmans Chapel area of Pierce County. After graduating from the former Blackshear High School, Ada had a 32-year career with Southern Bell in Waycross. The job took her to Houston, New Orleans, back to Waycross, and then to Savannah, from where she retired in 1985 to care for her ill mother.
After her mother died, Ms. Douglas worked part time for Bank of America and Kelly Services. Her life has been “active’’ as she has always been a volunteer, mostly with Telephone Pioneers of America, which works with other agencies, and also as a “Pink Lady” at Memorial Satilla Health, where she also worked in the gift shop.
Her favorite was the “Make A Wish Foundation,’’ when she was able to make several wishes come true for terminally ill children in Waycross, Douglas, Jesup and Pearson. She served several years as president of the local Pioneers.
Ms. Douglas was an Elder at First Presbyterian Church of Waycross, where she has served as Sunday School teacher, coordinator for Presbyterian Women, treasurer and clerk of session. She enjoyed spending time reading, playing cards, and especially enjoying her “cherished friends playing Mah Jongg.’’
Along with her parents, she also was preceded in death by two brothers, David Eaton and Dorsey Eaton.
She is survived by her son, Steven Douglas and his wife, Cynthia, of Thomaston, Ga.; two grandsons, Scott Douglas and his wife, Christina, and Stan Douglas; four great-grandchildren, Ian Douglas, Aiden Douglas, Owen Douglas and Sophia Douglas; her sister, Jeri Pearson of Waycross; as well as numerous other relatives.
A funeral service was held March 8 in the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed on March 9 in Waters Cemetery in Blackshear.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 601 Hill Street, Waycross, 31501. Sympathy may be expressed by signing online at www.milesodumfuneralhome. com.
Music Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
