The Leadership Waycross Class of 2025 chose this Valentine’s Day to spread love to Harborview Satilla as part of its class service project.

A few members of the class spread love by delivering a variety of items February 13 to the facility at 1600 Riverside Avenue, just in time for residents to enjoy on the special holiday. Among the gifts were board games, crossword puzzles, arts and crafts supplies, blankets, and socks.

Class members Kari Piestrak, Valencia Baker, Shumekia Brown and Melissa Thrift presented the items to Kristen Suhr, Harborview Activities Director. Members of the class had collected the personal comfort and activity items to donate.

The class project began with a simple, but powerful vision: to share love and kindness with those in our community who may not always receive the attention they deserve.

At a brief meeting in 2024, class members discussed ways they could make a meaningful impact. It was during the conversation Thrift suggested supporting a local nursing care facility, which quickly became the foundation for the service project.

Through teamwork and dedication — truly living out the motto “Together Everyone Achieves More” — the project was a success. The majority of donated items were contributed by class members, supplemented by a couple of local corporate donations to help bring the vision to life.

Class members said the target of the project was an easy one. Among the greatest acts of love within a community is caring for its elderly, especially those who reside in local nursing facilities.

Through the project, the Leadership Waycross Class of 2025 hoped to remind residents they are valued, remembered, and deeply loved.
