Bristol businessman Austin Boatright and incumbent Neal Bennett will face off for County Chairman in the May 19 primary election. Both men are running as Republicans.
Boatright says he is a businessman and wants local government to work for the people.
“I’m running because I believe in strong leadership, responsible spending and protecting the future of Pierce County while keeping the values that make our community special,” he said.
Boatright says his faith, family values and love for Pierce County are what motivate him to step forward and serve.
“I’m not a career politician. I’m a local business owner and community member who believes our county government should work for the people who live here, work here and raise their families here. I have spent my life working hard and serving the community I call home. From farming earlier in life to now owning and operating local businesses, I understand the importance of hard work, small business and supporting our local economy.”
He and his wife, Brittany, have two children. He is an active member at Bristol Baptist Church.
Bennett is currently serving his third term as chairman and previously represented the first district on the commission for 28 years.
Bennett hopes to continue serving the citizens of Pierce County and using his decades of experience in local government to guide the county toward a strong and successful future. He is committed to being a responsible steward of county resources and maintaining one of the lowest tax rates in Southeast Georgia.
Bennett plans to focus on responsible growth, improving county services and maintaining the quality of life that makes Pierce County a great place to live. He supports efforts to improve roads, infrastructure and economic development while ensuring the county remains financially responsible.
Bennett believes in listening to residents and working collaboratively to address the needs of the community.
He and his wife, Tammy, have four children: Crissy, Amber (Adam), Neal Jr. and Jenna and four grandchildren: Klyne, Katelyn, Hinson and Hindree. As an active member of First Baptist Church of Blackshear, Bennett is committed to serving the people of Pierce County and strengthening the community for generations to come.
The chairman runs county-wide. There is no Democrat running, so the race will be decided in the Republican primary May 19.
