BEARVILLE — PCHS’s tennis teams captured a pair of home sweeps over Class 6A schools last week.
The Lady Bears rolled to a 5-0 victory Tuesday, March 3, over Tift County and followed with a 3-2 win Thursday, March 5, against Lowndes.
The Bears, last year’s Class 2A state champions, beat both the Blue Devils and Vikings by 3-2 scores.
Pierce County traveled Tuesday (March 10) to face Savannah Arts Academy in a Region 3-AA matchup. PCHS wraps up the week participating in the two-day Granger Invitational hosted by LaGrange Friday, March 13 and Saturday, March 14.
Both the Lady Bears and Bears travel Tuesday, March 17, to Appling County. They will put a wrap to the week Friday, March 20 and Saturday, March 21 playing in the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Camden County.

PCHS posted five straight-set victories over the Lady Blue Devils.
M.K. Weatherington turned back Sutton Sheppard 6-2, 7-5 at No. 1 singles. Mattie Lee slipped past Riley Griffin 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2. Jasmine Sergent was a 6-0, 6-0 winner against Perrin Turner at No. 3.
Neither doubles team had much trouble. The No. 1 duo of Brooklyn Thomas and Abby Higginson posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Eshal Khan and Maggie Nelson with the No. 2 duo of Eva Horne and Mary Mac Cochran beating Ava Grace Paulk and Maggie Grimes 6-1, 6-0.

The Bears won two of the three singles matches, one via a disqualification, and split the doubles action to clip Tift County.
Jeb Bradley posted a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 2 over Elijah Hellman. Aaden Carlson was leading 5-3 over Seth Denham at No. 3 when the match ended with a disqualification. J.C. Nimmer fell 6-0, 7-5 at No. 1 to Josh Hellman.
The No. 1 doubles team of Kellen Roberts and Grayson Rodgers eased past Adam Beck and Ethan Vanorman 6-1, 62. The No. 2 duo of Colby Coates and Thomas Lucas dropped a third-set, 10point tie-breaker to Isaac Beck and Jay Ross 6-4, 2-6, 12-10.

The Lady Bears secured the victory with a sweep of the singles with Lowndes taking both doubles matches.
Wetherington downed Emme Van Jura 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1. Lee notched a 6--0, 6-0 decision at No. 2 over Stella Tobey. Sergent knocked of Sydney Hersaba 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3.
The Thomas-Higginson No. 1 doubles team fell in a third-set, 10-point tiebreaker losing 5-7, 6-3, 108 to Anna Bearden and Morgan Causey. Horne and Cochran fell 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 to Susan Jordan and Madison Bennett.

PCHS used the same formula in beating Tift County to knock off Lowndes.
Bradley was victorious at No. 2 singles, beating Wells Dameson 6-1, 6-0. Carlson captured a second DQ victory at No. 3 against Ben Cochran leading 6-0 and tied 2-2 in the second set when play was stopped. Nimmer fell 6-2, 6-0 to Holden Walton at No. 1.
The Coates-Lucas No. 2 duo knocked off Shir Kapoon and Ethan Stoutamire 6-4, 6-2. The Roberts-Rodgers tandem lost a 10-point, third-set tie-breaker falling 1-6 6-4, 10-8 to Eli Johnson and Jacob Howard.
