New recreation complex: Recreation Director Maureen Brown and Third District County Commissioner Randy Dixon said planning is still underway for the new recreation complex on County Farm Road and the renovations at the Ware Street Park. Planning for the new park and renovations have been at a standstill since last summer. Dixon explained the delay is due to design and infrastructure planning for the new park. “It is time to do something,” he said.
Director’s report: Recreation Director Maureen Brown reported that basketball season has wrapped up. Pierce County’s 10u girls and 12u boys both were runners up at district competition. Pierce County hosted the district tournament and reported $1,400 in tournament fees, $3,524 in gate receipts and $1,359.75 from concessions. Basketball season final revenues included gate receipts of $13,597 and concession sales were $6,510.43. Brown also gave an update on spring sports. She reported 219 had signed up for baseball, 104 for soccer and 50 for softball with plans for golf, tennis and track and field ongoing. Evaluations and drafts are underway now with opening ceremonies tentatively set for April 13.
