Primary qualifying for Ware seats runs to Friday

Qualifying for a handful of seats in Ware County in the Primary Election in May continues until Friday, March 6 at the Ware County Board of Elections and Registration.

Two seats on the Ware County Commission, three on the Ware County Board of Education and another for Solicitor General are up in 2026. Incumbents for two of the three school board seats were the first qualifiers Monday, March 2, Elections Superintendent Carlos Nelson said.

Wendell Bagley seeks reelection in District 5 while Brandi Waters filed to return to her District 6 seat. The other available seat, with a qualifying fee of $216, is in District 4, currently held by Rusty Ganas.

The two commission seats available are for Districts 1 and 3, which are held by Leonard Burse and Timothy Lucas, respectively. Fee for those seats is $144.

Attorney Joseph R. Johnson, Jr. currently is Solicitor General. Qualifying fee there is $1,714.

Candidates must be residents of the district in which they serve. They can qualify for seats from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., through Thursday, March 5 and 8 a.m. to noon the final day at the elections office, 408 Tebeau Street.

Early voting for the election May 19 will begin Monday, April 27 at the elections office and continue through Friday, May 15. Weekday hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with the Saturday, May 2 and 9 opportunities held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Voting May 19 will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at county locations.

Residents must be registered to vote by April 20 to be eligible to cast a ballot in the Primary. For more information, call (912) 287-4363.

If a runoff is needed for any of the seats, it will be Tuesday, June 16.
