BLACKSHEAR — Jann Mitchell, 80, of Blackshear, Ga., died Thursday,

February 26, 2026, at Baptist Village Nursing Home after an extended illness.

Mrs. Mitchell was born in Clarkston, S.C., to the late John Payne and Rubye Titshaw Payne and made South Georgia home for most of her life. She worked for Flash Foods and Circle K for more than 20 years as a cashier, where she could be found with a welcoming smile and a friendly conversation to all customers. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and loved all sorts of animals.

In addition to her parents, she also was preceded in death by her husband, Walter G. Mitchell; a grandson, Trey Manders; a great grandson, Ryder Moore; three sisters, Frances Payne, Martha Walker, and Nan Cleveland.

Mrs. Mitchell is survived by three children, Annabelle Mitchell (husband Daniel) of Patterson, George Bennett “Joby” Mitchell of Waycross, and Bonita Mitchell of Indiana; 13 grandchildren, Sydney Slusher (Caleb), Kendle Taylor, Jade Bentley, Haley Andreoli (Kendall), Devin Taylor, Ashley Moore (Josh), Abbigail Mitchell, Walt Mitchell, Christy Lee, Jamie Rowell, Eddie Hampton (Melissa), Corey Piazza (Jacqui), and Neeko King (Elena); eight greatgrandchildren, Korbin Griffin, Kannon Griffin, Annabelle Moore, Gabriella Piazza, Trevor Piazza, Josiah Mitchell, Jasper Hampton, and Haley Hampton; a sister, Jeanne Cote of Pennsylvania; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A funeral service was held March 2 in the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Blackshear City Cemetery.
