GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Mr. Charles Leroy Baker, 79, passed away Sunday, February 22, 2026, at the Malcolm Randall VA Medical Center in Gainesville, Fla., following a brief illness.

He was born in Brownsville, Texas, to the late Francis Leroy Baker and Margie Lou Elam Baker. Baker retired as an HVAC technician at Kings Bay Naval Base following 20 years of employment.

Baker proudly served three tours during the Vietnam War with the United States Marine Corps, and was a founding member of Detachment #1333 of the Marine Corps League. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waycross.

In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by his wife, Christina Crawford Baker; and a brother, Ronald Scott Baker.

He is survived by four siblings, Francis Marie Golden of Virginia; Lawrence Baker (Jeanne) of Blackshear; John B. Baker (Juanita) of Folkston; and Sylvia Louise Smith of New Mexico; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A requiem mass was held March 2 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment followed in Oakland Cemetery.
