James David ‘Buddy’ Sellers

HORTENSE – James David “Buddy” Sellers, 84 of Hortense, passed away Friday afternoon, February 27, 2026, at his residence after an extended illness.

Born in Patterson, his parents were James Lawton Sellers and Gertrude “Doll” Herrin Sellers. He is also preceded in death by a grandson, Kelly Gibson; two great grandchildren, Gavin Sellers and Bentley Gibson; one brother, Kenneth Lawton Sellers; one sister, Yvonne

DePratter; two nieces, Debbie McCarthy and Donna Adams; one nephew, Darrell Dixon.

Sellers was a veteran of the Army Reserves. He was the former owner and operator of Paige’s Minit Market.

Sellers was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Blackshear. He was a jackof- all-trades, enjoyed farming and sitting on his porch, and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Lavonne Moody Sellers of Hortense; one daughter and son-in-law, Shawnda and Mike Kersey of Hortense; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary David and Rhonda Sellers of Hortense, and James Timothy and Regina Sellers of Blackshear; nine grandchildren, Justin Sellers (Danielle), Jordan Chesser, Jessica Sellers, Harrison Sellers, Zachary Kersey (Griffany), McKenzy Bishop (Blake), Mikayla and Colby Shuman, Delta Gibson and Kyle Branch; seven great grandchildren, Griffin Sellers, Decah McDaniel, Daylee Abelar, Jaxton Chesser, Kambree Bishop, Bailey Grace Gibson and Brody Gibson; a sister, Kay Sellers of Hortense; a sister-in-law, Wanda Roberson Sellers of Hortense; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A funeral service was held Monday, March 2, 2026 at the chapel of Frye Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Golden officiating.

Active pallbearers were Justin Sellers, Zachary Sellers, Harrison Sellers, Blake Bishop, Kyle Branch and Colby Shuman.

Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren, great grandchildren and the staff and nurses of Georgia Hospice Care.

Arrangements were with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
