NAHUNTA — The Brantley County Retired Educators Association has had a very busy 2025-26, and we’re not finished yet.
Speaking at the BCREA meetings have been a representative from AMBA (the GREA insurance and benefits organization, in September); State Representative John Corbett and Senator Mike Hodges (October); Dr. Kristi Thompson from BayView (physical therapist, November); the Brantley County Middle School/High School Choruses (directed by Heather Jacobs) and Brantley County School Superintendent Dr. Kim Morgan (December); Lynn Jones from the Brantley County Library (January); and most recently, Brantley County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Mike Foreman (February).
The BCREA has also been active with community projects, such as working with our local government representatives and local churches to recognize our retired educators county-wide on Retired Educators Day (first Sunday in November); our provision of employee appreciation items for every Brantley County school board employees (teachers, paras, secretaries, lunch ladies, bus drivers everybody) in January; donations of school supplies (well over 500 items) at mid-school-year, and providing largeprint materials (about 100 items) for seniors in BayView Nursing & Rehab and the Brantley County Senior Center.
BCREA is currently still receiving (financial) donations for the GREA President’s Humanitarian Project, the Wellstar Children’s Hospital of Georgia. The organization has already raised enough funds ($500) for this year’s BCREA Educator Scholarship, which will be awarded at the March meeting.
The next BCREA meeting will take place on Friday, March 13 at 10:30 a.m., in the Transportation Professional Learning Room. A well sought-after local speaker will be coming to speak on the history of Brantley County.
It promises to be very interesting, and all are invited to attend.
