BCHS record seventh first round victory

Lady Herons beat Central-Macon, fall at E. Laurens

CANEY BAY — Abbie Lee’s double-double of 16 points and 15 rebounds led Brantley County to a Class A DI first round 58-46 win over Central Macon here Tuesday night.

The first round victory was the seventh for the 14th-seed Lady Herons (21-7) in 21 post-season appearances and second at home. BCHS knocked off Jordan 75-35 in a Class AA first round game in 2024.

The 19th-seed Lady Chargers (15-13) of Region 2 had their four-run of 20+ win seasons snapped with the loss.

Central Macon, which was outscored 38-14 inside the three-point line from the floor, stayed in the game hitting seven shots from beyond the arc outscoring the Lady Herons 21-6. Brantley County allowed the visitors to stay in the game making just 14-of-29 (48 percent) of its free throws while the Lady Chargers were not able to capitalize sinking just 11-of-23 (48%).

Lee scored nearly half of her points from the charity line going 7-of-10. Her lone first half basket was a trey. She added two steals and handed out an assist.

The Lady Herons limited Central Macon to one field goal and two free throws in the opening period in building an 11-4 advantge. The scoring pace picked up in the second stanza with Brantley County holding a 17-14 advantage to take a double-digit halftime lead at 28-18.

BCHS added one point to its margin during the third period outscoring the Lady Chargers 14-13 to open up a 4231 advantage. The Lady Herons added one more point to its margin by the final horn outpointing Central Macon 1615 for the final 12-point advantage.

Chloe Johns (trey; four rebounds, two assist, steal) and Edie Lowther (five rebounds) followed Lee’s lead contributing nine points and eight points respectively. Kirsten Smith (eight rebounds, assist, steal) chipped in seven points.

Tamiyah Coley (two rebounds, steal) and Ella Highsmith (five rebounds) each netted six points. Anniston Bowers (three assists, team-high three steals, two rebounds) bagged four points. Grace Carver added two points. Julie Carter handed out a team-high four assists.

Central Macon’s JeMyree Simmons (three treys) claimed game-high scoring honors with 23 points. Caylin Mathis (trey) was next with 11 points.
