Lady Heron netters win two of three matches

Brantley County’s Lady Herons had a busy week of action beginning with two Region 1-A matches and participation in the Jekyll Jam.

The Lady Herons survived against visiting region foe Thomasville Tuesday, February 24 capturing a 3-2 victory. BCHS was swept 5-0 in falling to regionmate Jeff Davis Thursday, February 26 in Hazlehurst.

Brantley County opened the Jekyll Jam tournament with a 32 victory over Athens Academy Friday, February 27.

Saturday’s matches were not received in time for print this week.

CANEY BAY — BCHS captured two of the three singles matches and split the doubles action to slip past the Lady Bulldogs.

The Lady Herons won at No. 1 and No. 3 singles and secured the match with a victory at No. 2 doubles.

Haley Smith downed Ella Rodd at No. 1 singles winning 60, 6-1 with Mary Drury outlasting Kamryn Shokat 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3. Bri Crews fell 6-3, 7-6 (75) battling back from a 5-1 deficit to force a tie-breaker in the second set against Ruby Do at No. 2.

The No. 1 doubles team of Adalyn Lattanzie and Kynli Flowers fell 6-3, 6-2 to Trinity Do and Caroline Still. The No. 2 duo of Emersyn Payne and Brenna Gilder turned back Addison Johnson and Chloe Do 6--

2, 6-3.

HAZLEHURST — Jeff Davis overpowered the Lady Herons winning four of the five matches in straight sets dropping just 10 games.

Smith fell to Cori Mims at No. 1 singles losing 6-2, 6-2. Crews dropped a 6-4, 6-1 decision to Lila Walters at No. 2. Lattanzie suffered a 6-1, 6-0 loss to Ryleigh King at No. 3.

Mary Drury and Sara Kate Rentz were blanked 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles by Ava Coleman and Kyle Ross while the No. 2 team of Payne and Gilder fell 67 (9-7), 5-2, 10-2 in a third-set 10-point tie-breaker.

BRUNSWICK — A sweep of the doubles action lifted Brantley County over Athens Academy in sets to four games and seven-point tie-breakers.

Payne and Flowers rallied to beat Kate Lansley and Charleigh Floyd at No. 1 winning 3-5, 4-0, 7-5. Ellie Morgan and Gilder posted a 5-4 (7-3), 4-1 victory at No. 2 over Ansley Jackson and Maggie Parker.

H.J. Smith recorded the Lady Herons’ lone singles victory at No. 1 doubling up Eva Kreihbel 4-2, 4-2. Crew lost a 4-1, 4-1 decision at No. 2 to Blythe Roark. Drury lost a tie-breaker in falling 0-4, 4-0, 7-5 at No. 3 to Cate Kilgore.
