Pierce to host training for pesticides, Mar. 18

Pierce County will be one of 17 locations statewide to host Using Pesticides Wisely (UPW) training.

The training will be held 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, at the UGA Extension Office at 705 College Avenue in Blackshear.

The other training sessions will be held in Bainbridge, Moultrie, Hawkinsville, Sylvester, Reynolds, Cartersville, Camilla, Dawson, Quitman, Statesboro, Vidalia, Tifton, Douglas, Waynesboro, Swainsboro, Danielsville and Dublin.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced new, twoyear registrations to allow for dicamba products for over-the-top use in dicamba-tolerant cotton and soybeans as of last month. However, these registrations include new label restrictions producers must be aware of before using to be effective stewards of this technology.

The training sessions are sponsored by the Georgia Department of Agriculture and UGA Extension. It is imperative that producers attend a UPW course to maintain Georgia's reputation of pesticide stewardship. For more information, contact your local UGA Extension office.
