SAVANNAH — Mr. Charles L. Strickland, 80, passed away suddenly Saturday evening, February 21, 2026, at Memorial Health in Savannah.
Born September 18, 1945, in Waycross, he was the son of the late Charley Leroy Strickland and May Bell Beverly Strickland. Charles was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War and served his country with honor.
He began his long and dedicated career as a forester with Brunswick Pulp and Paper, which later became Georgia-Pacific. After 54 years of service, he retired, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, loyalty, and professionalism.
Mr. Strickland was a cofounder of the Okefenokee Track Club, and was well known for his deep commitment to fitness and discipline. Everyone who knew him understood he took exercise just as seriously as his work. He proudly competed in the first 45 Gate River Run races, a remarkable testament to his endurance and dedication. In fact, he had planned a 10-mile bike ride on the very day he passed.
He is survived by his son, Charlie Strickland (Sherri) of Canton, Ga; his daughter, Melissa Lee “Missy” Lockard; two grandchildren, Kalee Hendrix and Storm Noel; his siblings, Dwayne Strickland (Linda) of Waycross, Linda Williams (Marvin) of Waycross, and Glenda Williams (Tom) of Raleigh, N.C.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m Thursday, February 26 at Music Funeral Home.
