Here is the news for this week. This is the last week of Black History Month. It’s good to know your history including all the stories our grandmothers taught us. We are still making history. ***** To our community: Pierce County Senior Center’s Prom Night was held February 12 with the theme: “Evening of Elegance”. We seniors were beautiful. We had a good time with dancing and the food was tasty. The event featured the crowning of the King and Queen. Queen is Ada Mae Myles and King is Terrell Tuten. Good things are happening at Pierce County Senior Center. Thanks to everyone!

***** Isaac Moses’ Black History Day will be held from noon-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at Lee Street Resource Center, 628 Sycamore Street, Blackshear. Tanisha Nunn Gary, a native of Pierce County, will be the featured speaker. Bingo will follow at 5 p.m., also at the Resource Center. Everyone is invited to come have a fun day with your family. For more information, contact 912-552-0118. ***** A Black History Community Celebration will be held from 3:30-7 p.m.. Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Session Hill Community Center, 3105 Allen Avenue, Blackshear. Please note the change in time and date. The theme will be “Building Our Community in Unity”.

The event will feature a Black owned business showcase ($30 for vendors), a community barbeque ($20 per plate), free health care screenings including blood pressure/ hypertension, prostate cancer awareness and free financial literacy resources including budgeting and credit, home ownership and small business banking and music, culture and family friendly activities.

Everyone is invited to come celebrate Black history while strengthening the community through unity, health and economic empowerment.
