(The Patterson City Council discussed and/or voted on the following items during their monthly meeting Thursday, February 12. ) Mayor Pro Tem Echols presides: Mayor Pro Tem Jake Echols conducted the meeting in the absence of Mayor Dedi Thomas. Mayor Thomas is reportedly is on medical leave with a health issue.
Speed bumps: Mayor Pro Tem Echols announced speed bumps will be replaced on Thomas Street near the Red Pepper Grill. The speed bumps were removed when the street was resurfaced and have not been replaced. A resident requested the speed bumps on Thomas Street be replaced at last month’s meeting. Speed bumps have been a regular request to help alleviate speeding in Patterson in recent months. Speed bumps were placed on Tyre Bridge Road and are planned for Peach Avenue soon.
Department reports: Police Chief Nick Strickland and public works superintendent Tyler Stokes were out on calls and were not present for the meeting. Mayor Pro Tem Echols gave both reports. The police department responded to 10 calls for service, investigated a traffic accident and made four traffic stops for a total of 15 calls for service during January. The fire department reported six fire calls, four assist police calls and one medical call in January. Firefighters also participated in three training events for a total of 12 hours accredited training. In public works, it was reported remodeling of the Georgia Forestry Commission for the city fire department and public works headquarters is nearing completion. It was also reported two old storage buildings at the tennis courts were torn down. Councilman David Smith said he wanted the city to continue with improvements at city park to make the area look good. He noted the new pickleball and tennis courts area looks good and he wants the whole park area to be attractive. He and other council members also remarked they would like to see lighting completed at the football and baseball fields there.
City Clerk Laura Kate Dixon had nothing to report.
