Dollar General planned for Plant

Ware County residents may have noticed excavation work being performed just off Plant Avenue next door to the Hardee’s.

The site will be the location of a new Dollar General outlet, The Waycross Journal-Herald has learned.

According to a statement from a spokesperson for Dollar General Corporation Public Relations, the company is “currently finalizing our due diligence phase for a new Dollar General in Waycross that would be located on Plant Avenue.”

The statement went on to say the groundbreaking for the next outlet is expected in the coming weeks.

Additionally, another Dollar General is planned for 725 E. Blackshear Avenue, “within the next week after receipt of needed permits and approvals” the spokesperson added.

The two new locations will bring the total number of stores in Ware County to 10.

“Our customers are at the center of all that we do, and meeting their needs is our top priority when choosing store locations,” the public relations spokesperson continued. “In selecting store sites, we take a number of factors into consideration, carefully evaluating each potential new store location to ensure we can continue to meet our customers’ price, value and selection needs.”

This new construction comes amid broader expansion plans for the retail outlet.

According to a December press release, Dollar General reported a net sales increase of 4.6 percent in the 2025 third fiscal quarter, along with operating profit and samestore sales increases.

Accompanying these financials, the retailer announced plans to open 450 new stores across the United States, as well as 10 new stores in Mexico, alongside over 2,000 store remodellings and 20 store relocations.

“We’re especially pleased with the continued progress we’re making against our key initiatives and are excited about the opportunities ahead of us at Dollar General, including the 2026 real estate growth plans we announced today,” Todd Vasos, Dollar General Chief Executive Officer, said in the release.
