MORROW — Pierce County’s Jay’lynn Everett finished third here in the 215-lb. weight division at the Boys’ Class 2A twoday Traditional tournament at The Arena at Southlake.

Everett (42-9) overcame a second round loss battling through the consolation bracket posting four consecutive wins.

He was joined at the finals by Gregory Sallet (120) and Cooper Davis (150), both ousted in the first consolation round.

Everett recorded a pin (1:50) in his opening match over Carver-Atlanta’s Corde Russell. An 11-3 major decision loss to Holy Innocents’ Thomas Dougherty put the PCHS grappler into the loser’s bracket.

He won his way through the consolation rounds pinning Cook’s Akeem Bateman (4:44), Crisp County’s Jackson Lowry (3:26 - quarterfinals) and East Jackson’s Emer Jacinto (4:22 - semis). Everett won the third-place match with a 10-6 decision over Pike County’s Noah Cash.

Sallet posted a 1-2 mark in his weight class. After an opening 9-2 loss to Michkel Huerta of Columbia, Sallett pinned Cook’s Riley Leath. Shaw’s Geno Whitaker eliminated Sallet with an 8-5 victory.

Davis followed suit going 1-2. He dropped a 23-8 technical fall decision to Lakeview-Ft. Oglethorpe’s Keegan Kinsey. After a bounceback pin (3:25) of Cook’s Logan Kennedy, Hart County’s King Campbell ended Davis’s tournament dreams with a pin (1:53).

East Jackson (170 points) captured its first-ever title with eight wrestlers finishing in the top six. Franklin County (150) was second followed by Columbus (141), Coahulla Creek (133.5) and Rockmart (131).
