MORROW — Jayden Altman became the first PCHS Lady Bear wrestler to log a top four showing at the state wrestling tournament.

Altman placed fourth in the 110-lb. weight class here at the two-day all-classification Traditional tournament at The Arena at Southlake. The event was held Friday, February 13 and Saturday, February 14.

She was joined at the finals by Robi Milsom (105) and Josie Insalaco (130).

Altman went 4-2 with both losses to Bentley Burke of Central-Carroll. The PCHS grappler opened with a pin (1:22) of Southeast Whitfield’s Alexis Dalton. Burke doubled up Altman 14-7 in the second round.

Altman won three consecutive matches in the consolation bracket starting with a pin (3:53) over hometown wrestler Candessa Barber of Morrow. After surviving a 10-6 win against Camden County’s Peyton Rego in the consolation quarterfinals, Altman pinned (4:44) Carrollton’s Elise Hauter in the semifinals. Burke recorded a pin (1:34) of Altman in the third-place match.

Milsom suffered pin losses in both of her matches against Alpharetta’s Maria Aguado (49 seconds) and Central Macon’s Zipporah Bullock (3:38).

Insalaco went 2-2 winning via pin (5:32) over Hart County’s Kailyn Bowers in the first round. She fell 6-1 in a TB-1 (Tiebreaker 1) in Round 2.

A TB-1 is the first set of 30-second tiebreaker periods in overtime, used when a match is tied after regulation and a 1minute sudden-victory period.

Insalaco bounced back with a pin (3:23) over Campbell’s Alethia Turner. She was eliminated via pin (1:01) by North Oconee’s Hazel Beam.
