Pierce Middle netters beat Jeff Davis Middle

BEARVILLE — Pierce County’s Middle School tennis programs swept visiting Jeff Davis Monday in the opening match of the season.

The defending Southeast Georgia Middle School Conference champion Lady Bears survived a 3-2 scare from Jeff Davis with the Bears logging a 5-0 victory in the boys’ match February 2.

PCMS traveled Tuesday, February 10 to Douglas to face Coffee Middle School. Pierce Middle will be off for 13 days before returning to the courts Monday, February 23 with Coffee Middle visiting.

PCMS picked up the victory sweeping the tightly contested singles matches against the Lady Yellow Jackets.

Zayleigh Raithel was victorious in the No. 1 position winning the tie-breaker 9-8 (10-5). Emmaline Taylor escaped 8-6 playing No. 2 with Braylee Oliver notching an 8-5 decision at No. 3.

The No. 1 doubles tandem of Lily Gray Wright and Brooklyn Barber lost 9-8 (10-7) in a tie-breaker with the duo of Ane Clough and Kaylen Sills falling 8-5.

Pierce Middle dropped just four games in knocking off the Yellow Jackets.

Nate Carlson played the closest match doubling up his foe 8-4 at No. 1 singles. Cooper Bradley and Bentley Taylor each posted 8-0 victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.

The No. 1 doubles duo of Jaxon Coates and Pate Thomas and the No. 2 tandem of Dow Walker and Barrett Reid also posted 8-0 wins.
