ATLANTA — Pierce County swimmer Sam Chesser secured two Top 10 finishes here at the state meet held at Georgia Tech.
Chesser swam to a seventh-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke posting a personal-best time of 1:01.26 in the finals. That followed a personal-best time of 1:01.9 in the prelims.
He finished eighth in the 50 freestyle event posting a time of 22.36 seconds. During the prelims, Chesser set a personal-best mark of 22.33 seconds.
The Lady Bears’ 200 free relay team of Lyla Brooker, Jacey Ryals, Jasmine Sergent and Teagan Dixon shaved 4.4 seconds off their previous- best time posting a 1:48 for an 11th-place finish. The foursome set their best time by four seconds in prelims at 1:48.4.
The Bears’ 200 free relay team of Davis Dyal, Rowan McCrea, Donald Moser and Chesser were disqualified after posting a season-best time of 1:36.09 in the prelims. The team was called for an early take off and were unable to advance.
Overall, the Lady Bears finished 31st in the grouped Class 3A-A finals with 22 points.
Greater Atlanta Christian won the girls’ title with 397.5 points. GAC was followed by Athens Academy (251.5), Calhoun (250), Mt. Vernon (182) and Columbus (174).
The Bears finished 26th with 31 points. GAC captured the title with 398.5 points. Lovett (207), North Hall (200), Wesleyan (191.5) and Columbus (172) rounded out the top five finishers.
