PCMS 6th-7th graders drop three of four tilts

PCMS’s 6th-7th grade Bears opened their 2026 schedule dropping three of four games to begin their first week.

The Bears (1-3) fell 9-1 Tuesday, February 10 in Lyons to Toombs County Middle School. That followed a three-game tournament in Dublin.

PCMS went 1-3 at the Dublin Middle School tourney Saturday, February 7.

The Bears downed Telfair County Middle School 13-5 in its opener. Pierce Middle suffered back-to-back 4-3 losses to West Laurens Middle School and Appling County Middle School.

DUBLIN — Griff Walsh and Hudson Zauner combined on a three-inning not-hitter against the Trojans.

Paxton Cochran (RBI) went 2-for-4 collecting two of the Bears’ three hits. Griff Walsh recorded the other base knock. PCMS swiped 11 bases.

DUBLIN — Pierce Middle cut a 4-1 deficit to 4-3 in the sixth inning before the final out was recorded.

Hyatt Streat (RBI) led PCMS’s five hit attack going 2-for-3. Lane Russell, Zauner (stolen base) and Stipe (double) finished with a hit each.

Case Morris, Zauner (two HBP) and Russell (WP) took turns toeing the rubber. The trio surrendered nine hits with all four runs earned. They combined for four strikeouts and three walks.

Appling Middle........4 Bears.......................3

DUBLIN — Appling County broke a 3-all tie, scoring the eventual winning run in the fifth inning.

Zauner (RBI) led PCMS at the plate with two hits. Cam Callahan, Streat and Morris each added a hit.

Landon Shabott, Cochran (WP), Morris and Zauner (HBP) worked from the mound for the Bears. They surrendered six hit with two of the four runs earned. The foursome fanned two and walked six.

Toombs Middle .......9 Bears .......................1

LYONS — The Bulldogs scored all of their runs over the first three innings in beating PCMS.

Pierce Middle managed just three hits against a quartet of Toombs Middle pitchers.

Zauner, Callahan and Russell collected the base hits for the Bears.

Cochran (three hits, one strikeout, two walks), Russell (three hits, one strikeout, four walks) and Briggs Sweat (one hit, three strikeouts, three walks) twirled from the mound.
