Griffin

HORTENSE — Ronnie Gene Griffin, 69 of Hortense, passed away unexpectedly Monday, February 9, 2026, at Southeast Georgia Health Systems in Brunswick.

Griffin was born August 10, 1956, in Birmingham, Ala., to William and Evelyn Griffin. He joined the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War era at the age of 19 ,and proudly served his country for 11 years, completing his military service with the Georgia National Guard.

Griffin worked hard his whole life, beginning at eight years old working on his foster family’s farm. He was a truck driver and heavy machinery operator for most of his adult life and was employed with Neil Boatright Construction. He attended Little Memorial Baptist Church.

Griffin enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. In fact, his kids said if he wasn’t working, you could find him on the river, in the woods, or at home.

Griffin loved spoiling his grandkids. He was well-liked and known to be a jokester — he was funny and almost never serious — but he would help anyone and would give you the shirt off his back. Griffin never met a stranger and loved to talk — he LOVED to talk.

Griffin also instilled in his children his forgiving nature and his love for family. He would often say, “All we have is each other.” Griffin was, in fact, the glue that held the family together. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, especially the ones who called him dad and granddad.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Griffin and Evelyn Johnson; and brothers, Steve Griffin, Roger Griffin, and Jimmy Harvil.

Griffin is survived by his four children, Amanda Marie Sweat, Stephanie Lynn Griffin, Candy Lynn Goswick and Heath Eugene Griffin, all of Hortense; his grandchildren, Cory Griffin, Devin Sweat, Tyler Cox, Cole Pate, Emily Pate, Autumn Rice, Katelyn Pate, Derick Rice, Bryce Wade Clark, Chad Andrew Edgell II and Olivia Skye Edgell; two great-grandchildren, Nova and Oakley Cox; brothers, David and Raymond Griffin; sisters, Glenda Perry, Tanya Watts and Jeanette Hagood; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life was held Friday, February 13, 2026, at the Altamaha Pavillion in Everett.

Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home was honored to assist the Griffin family.
