High-speed chase ends with arrest

NAHUNTA — A 25year-old Brunswick man was taken into custody Sunday after leading law enforcement on a highspeed pursuit from the City of Nahunta into Glynn County.

Nahunta Police Department officer Travis Smith was investigat-ing a reported domestic dispute within the limits at approxim ately 8:10 p.m., February 15.

While speaking with the victim, the suspect, Bryant Austin Clemons, drove past the scene and appeared to be highly intoxicated.

Officer Smith attempted to initiate a traffic stop in order to obtain the suspect’s statement regarding the domestic incident. Clemons refused to stop and fled in his vehicle leading a pursuit which entered Glynn County.

During the pursuit, deputies with the Brantley County Sheriff’s Office strategically deployed stop sticks near the Brantley County/Glynn County line, which assisted in safely disabling the vehicle.

Troopers with the Georgia State Patrol also assisted in bringing the pursuit to a safe conclusion inside Glynn County.

The pursuit was handled in a textbook manner by all involved agencies. Video footage of the incident has been reviewed and confirms all departmental pursuit policies were followed precisely.

The coordinated response between agencies ensured the dangerous situation was resolved safely. Importantly, no injuries were reported to officers, the public or the suspect.

Clemons was charged with Simple Assault – Family Violence, Felony Fleeing and Attempting to Elude, Failure to Stop at Stop Signs (two counts), Obstruction of Law Enforcement, Open Container Violation and Speeding.

He was transported to the Brantley County Jail for booking and is currently being held pending additional warrants.

The NPD extends its sincere appreciation to the Brantley County Sheriff’s Office, the Georgia State Patrol, and the dedicated 911 dispatchers whose professionalism and coordination were instrumental in safely resolving this incident.

This case demonstrates the importance of interagency cooperation and the commitment of our officers to protecting the public while operating within strict policy guidelines.
