Don’t wait until the last minute to buy a Valentine’s gift

To start off with, I have been married 41 years and we dated a few years before that.

With that being out of the way, I have never been one of the 'romantic' types and have even been known to have completely forgotten certain days that the ladies seem to look forward to.

This past weekend was one of those (but I didn't forget this time) and it seems that I always get reminded about the time many years ago that I waited until all of the flowers and candy were all gone and what did I do?

I bought her a pair of purple tennis shoes. I never knew what happened to them, but my kids said they remember them and it was when they were very young.

Bonnie took them for a ride down a dirt road and slung them out the window. No wonder I hate picking up other people's trash so much.

Someone probably found a brand-new pair of purple tennis shoes at my expense. That didn't go over very well.

Another time, I did the same thing and all I could find was a fruit basket that just happened to have plastic fruit in it.

At least the fruit wouldn't rot ; and that was two unique and different gifts for Valentine's Day that I can almost guarantee nobody else has received on that special day.

Did I mention that somehow, I have made it 41 years, but I still wouldn't recommend doing this at home.
