Herons win two in first week of season

Brantley County’s opening week of the 2026 baseball season ended with the Herons winning two of their first three games.

The Herons (2-1) lost a tough 4-3 decision in nine innings Monday, February 9 outside of Reidsville at Tattnall County. BCHS bounced back Tuesday night (February 10) with a 10-0 victory in six innings over the Warriors to wrap.

Brantley County wrapped Week 1 handing Liberty County (4-1) its first loss of the year with a 12-3 victory.

The Herons will tangle with Class 2A fourthranked Pierce County in a home-and-home series this week. The Bears visited Tuesday, February 17 with BCHS making the trek to Bearville Thursday, February 19 for a 6 p.m. first pitch.

Camden County comes calling Tuesday, February 24 in the first of three games for Brantley County the last week of the month. The Herons go to Long County Thursday, February 26 followed by a Friday, February 27 date at Camden County.

Tattnall Co. 4

REIDSVILLE — Tattnall County pushed home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to beat the Herons in the season opener.

BCHS jumped out to a 3-0 lead scoring a run in the second and two in third. The Warriors plated a run in the bottom of the third and two in the fifth to knot the score at 3-apiece.

CANEY BAY — The Herons scored in four of their six trips to the plate ending the game with a five-run sixth.

Brantley County scored the only run it would need in the first inning. The Herons added two runs in the third for a 3-0 advantage.

BCHS padded the lead with a second straight two-run inning in the fourth extending the margin to 5-0. The Herons ended the game in the sixth scoring five times to have the “10-run rule” applied.

Liberty Co. 3

CANEY BAY — Brantley County pulled away from a 3-all tie denting the plate nine times in the fifth inning to roll past the Panthers.

Liberty County broke a scoreless tie pushing home three runs in the top of the fourth. The Herons responded with a three-run rally in the bottom of the inning.

Brantley County batted around in the bottom of the fifth with nine runs crossing the plate in taking a 12-3 lead.
